================================================================
The Fire Fighters BP program was created in 2017 in response to the high number of premature deaths from stroke and heart attack among Fire Fighters. According to 20 years of OSHA data, heart attack in firefighters is the number one cause of line of duty deaths nationwide.
The Fire Fighters BP program connects Fire Fighters directly with the Mt. Sinai Cardiology team and / or their own private doctor.
The Fire Fighters BP program identifies untreated or inadequately treated high blood pressure — the number one killer of first responders while on duty — and connects the Fire Fighter with the Mount Sinai Cardiology Team to provide the best possible testing and care if needed.
Most importantly, the BP program provides on-going BP monitoring so you will not develop high BP without being aware of it. You can have high BP for decades and never realize it.
How does the Fire Fighters BP program bring the Mount Sinai Cardiology team to you?
You can receive a free WIRELESS BP cuff from your Union OR you are invited to purchase a wireless BP cuff on your own (QardioArm.com - Discount code ORES20 at checkout). Either way works fine. You measure your pressure twice a month if under 40 years old. And weekly of you are over 40 years old. Mt. Sinai cardiology gets your measurements as they happen. (If your upper arm is greater than 18” circumference and you need an X-tra large BP cuff, contact Dr. David Ores for details after you sign up).
By measuring your BP twice or four times a month, your blood pressure will not creep and cause serious blood vessel damage up over years without your awareness.
The goal of the Mount Sinai Fire Fighters BP program is to identify, manage and prevent high blood pressure (HTN or Hypertension) over years and even decades to reduce heart disease and stroke for all fire fighters. With 100% confidentially. Again, the FDNY is NOT part of this program.
You may receive confidential follow up medical recommendations from the Mt. Sinai cardiology team and/or David Ores, MD of HPFR, Inc.
You are also encouraged to contact your own doctor with any questions or concerns as you continue to self-monitor your blood pressure each year.
With continued self-monitoring, elevated blood pressure will be identified and addressed years or even decades earlier and then you can avoid irreversible heart damage, premature stroke and heart attack. Eventually, untreated high blood pressure in NYC fire fighters will become a thing of the past.
Prevent High Blood Pressure
By participating in the Fire Fighters Hypertension Prevention Program, you will also be part of a larger effort to reduce and prevent hypertension (the common killer) for all fire fighters everywhere.
HELP ALL FIRE FIGHTERS IN AMERICA OVER TIME
By collecting BP data over 5 or 7 years from NYC firefighters at all ages, we can publish pie charts and graphs to benefit all USA fire unions. We especially need fire professionals with normal BP so we can chart how fast and when, during your career, the BP begins to rise.
